Common Insurance FAQs

  • What kinds of damage will be covered by my insurance provider?

Each insurance provider is different, but here’s a general outline of what may or may not be covered by your provider:

    • Water damage: Water damage caused by problems such as leaky pipes and damaged roofs will usually be covered. However, water damage from overflowing rivers and other types of major flooding is generally excluded from most policies.
    • Fire damage: Any kind of damage from fires is covered by most providers, regardless of the cause of the fire. Insurance providers will often pay for fire and smoke residue cleanup, water extraction, contents restoration, property reconstruction, and any other cleanup services you may need.
    • Storm damage: Damages caused by ice, snow, wind, and rain are generally covered, with the exception of flooding caused by overflowing lakes and oversaturated soil. If the wind damages your roof and water leaks into your home, that should be covered as well.
    • Mold growth: Some insurance providers require you to have a separate mold growth policy. In other cases, mold removal services should be covered—particularly if the mold was directly caused by a covered item, such as a burst pipe.

  • Will my insurance provider cover things like contents restoration and reconstruction?

It depends on the type of damage.

If the damage is covered, then your provider should pay for every aspect of the cleanup process, from initial debris removal to reconstruction. However, if the type of damage isn’t covered, such as flood damage, from an overflowing lake, then you will usually have to pay for contents restoration and reconstruction.

  • When should I call my insurance company after a disaster?

Call your insurance company to open the claim immediately after you call a restoration company. Your insurance company will then send an insurance adjuster to help determine what’s covered and what isn’t.

  • Does Rapid Restoration accept my insurance?

Yes! We are happy to work with all insurance companies! Once you open the claim, we’ll take care of the rest.

  • Does homeowner’s insurance include flood damage?

In most cases, no. Flood damage is often a separate policy, and in some areas in Minnesota, you are required to purchase separate flood insurance.

  • Can I remodel my home instead of restoring it after an emergency?

Yes, but your insurance company most likely won’t cover the extra cost. Most homeowner’s insurance policies only cover to restore and replace of similar value.

  • Do I have to use the restoration company recommended by my insurance company?

No, you are not obligated to use the restoration company recommended by your insurance company.

  • What do I have to do to file a claim?

Each insurance company is different, so it’s important to call them as soon as you can after your home has been damaged. They’ll walk you through the process and help you open the claim.

  • What’s the insurance process like?

Here’s a basic overview of what to expect:

    1. You’ll open a claim with your insurance company.
    2. Your insurance company will send an insurance adjuster to your home to determine what’s covered and what isn’t.
    3. You’ll pay the deductible to us, and we’ll collect the remaining payment from your insurance company.
  • What is an insurance adjuster?

An insurance claims adjuster is someone your insurance company sends to determine what’s covered and what isn’t covered when your home is damaged.

  • What should I have ready when I call?

When you call us, make sure you know how much your deductible is. While waiting for us to come, take pictures and document the damage, as that will make it easier for you when the insurance adjuster comes.

  • Are you a preferred contractor for any insurances?

Yes! We are a preferred contractor for Pure Insurance.
